Our Timeline

We spoke with Anya and Artium today, thanks to our translator Zina from ECAS.  We also sent off a packet to them today with letters, cards, stickers, etc, just to let them know we are thinking about them.  Anya told us she is really missing us. 


We heard from another family who is adopting, the Ritzmans, that they received their call for a travel date.  They submitted their dossier to the SDA on 02/08/11, and got their SDA appointment date notice this week.  Nellie and I are so happy for them.  They will soon get to see their boy. We confirmed with Judy at ECAS this week that our attorney, Victor, is still set to submit our dossier to the SDA on 03/01/11.  If we follow the Ritzman's timeline, we should find out our SDA appointment date the 3rd week of March, with travel likely 2 weeks after.  Which puts us in Kiev about April 2nd or 3rd.

We told Anya to hold on, and not to doubt that we are coming.   I've been in touch with Chris Haak this week to ask about pointers for where to buy food, how to get around, etc.  The Haak's have been such a treasure to us.  I highly advise you check out their blog link on this page.  Chris and his wife Alesia are eager to help us, and we believe we'll have a chance to sit down with them before we go to map out places to eat, buy food, how to handle bus routes, etc.

My employer, Minneapolis 311, is helping me get set up for working out of Europe.  We are looking into getting me a GSM phone that will work while I'm in Kiev.  I will work Thursdays and Fridays, hours that will partially intersect with the work day back in the Twin Cities.  Why work?  I like my work, and it will give me a creative outlet for two days a week.  I work with a great team at 311.

    Hi Moore Family!

    We've been enjoying reading your blog and chuckling at your humor along the way. We came to your blog through the Ritzman Family. We are also adopting a boy soon in Ukraine and wanted to connect with you guys as well. Our dossier was submitted to the SDA on Feb. 23 and we are hoping to receive word about our SDA appointment by the end of this week. We expect to be leaving the last week in March.

We have been sending Samuel and Anya to a therapist for about 6 months now.  Dr. Kelly does play therapy, creating a safe zone for the kids to express their inner frustrations.  Nellie, Zach, myself and Matthias are ready for some play therapy.  I remember something my friend Jeff told me about Misha, a boy he adopted from Russia.  He said 5 years after the adoption, the boy still lies, and blatantly.    The funny thing is that there are days when you really believe you are making progress.  Then reality hits, and you see what was thought of as progress, was merely a calculation, a behavior displayed to yield a desired result.  This stands in stark contrast to any child we have raised previoulsy.  Our biological children at home, are really sick of these manipulative behaviors.  We are sick of them.  Talk about draining. I forgot a Key Post

Just reading through this nice new format on the blog, I realized I left out an important day or two I wanted to pass along.  After the 10 day wait for the court approval of the adoption, you have an opportunity to get the children.  There was some concern about my taking Samuel home to downtown Kiev.  I took this as a slight, which was kind of arrogant.  They were thinking of my best interests.  Having Samuel downtown in Kiev in the apartment was so difficult. He would not watch TV, nor play with toys, nor eat most of what we tried to feed him, and for entertainment, he would stare at the washing machine.  The days dragged on, until I called Igor and asked if Samuel could return to the orphanage for a few days.  Igor, always nice, said "no problem". But this is besides the point.  The day before our embassy appointment, we were running between a police station in Kiev and another government office, and a notary service at breakneck speed....

Day with the Kids in Kiev

Whew, what a ride!!  It was a great day, and a day of prayer.  God has been abundantly present and constantly giving parenting advice.  God really cares for kids, and the the advice is constantly, patience, patience, patience.  The kids were so excited about everything today...naptime, supper time, going to the park, going to bed.  These are good kids, but as some have told us, especially in Samuel's case, they have no idea about things like family rules. I've also worked my last day in Kiev until we return, I think.  Mr. Mom is a demanding job, and I'm glad to have it.  The day started early with a trip on the red line with the Landry's to meet up with Victor.  About 12:15 pm, our coordinator showed up with the two little gems in downtown Kiev.  We hung out at the Notary, and I thought it was for the Landry's.  Then Victor had me sign something for the Passport, and the day was done.  The Landry's and us took the train to Maida...
