Nellie and Matthias Depart Ukraine

Yesterday (Friday) was an adventure, and a day of sadness.  Anya had tears in her eyes as Nellie said "goodbye".  On the bus ride home, Zach and I took the 255 to the Lybidska station in search of a grocery store rumored to be there.  I discovered about 10 minutes later my Canon 12x zoom digital camera was missing.  Zach and I called Igor, went back to the orphanage, and looked through everything we have, to no avail.  A really great camera lost, which included some nice photos of Anya hugging Mama goodbye, and a hilarious video of COCH worker Anna boogying in a Randy Moss Vikings jersey we gave her.  I found the emotion of the moment so much at the orphanage that my logic center turned off.  I usually watch my stuff like a hawk.  I think it slipped out the the minibus.  I have no idea where it could be.

But we found our basic, backup camera in the apartment.  The camera is just a "thing" anyway, not worth getting all upset over.

We wanted to make sure we got a good photo of the two parents with Anya and Samuel before we left, so we headed back to COCH Saturday morning.  Yes, Anya really is that beautiful.  No touch up needed.

At 11:30 pm, I left with Nellie and Matthias to Borisporyl airport.  I saw Nellie and Matthias at their gate and waved from the security check in.  They saw me and waved back.

Zach stayed back with Anya and it turned out Anya had a meltdown about an hour later.  I feel completely drained from the emotions, and Anya has to feel that separation anxiety I've read so much about.  She knows Dad and Zach are staying with her, but she loves having a Mom now.  She laid down for a nap by the time I got back.  I brought her some cookies and told her we will be back tomorrow.  Poor thing.

Right now, Nellie and Matthias are near Germany on their flight, and they'll have a good hour between flights, to just sit back in the terminal.  I plan to follow their flight status.  Makes me feel good knowing they are heading home.

Things at our apartment are very quiet right now, just Zach and I.  We had to retain both laptops here for technical reasons, and that works out nicely for Zach and myself.  We figured out a way for Nellie to use the desktop at home for Skype calls.

Our daycare will open again on Tuesday.  I'm so happy for Nellie and Matthias that they will soon be home.  I really miss Minnesota.  But we're happy to be here with our Ukraine kids.  All we need is patience, and we are in very good hands here with Victor and Igor.

Oh, and to my wife and son, I already miss both of you.  Feels very strange not having Nellie with me right now.  And I miss my boy, Matthias.  We had many good football throws and chats while he was here.  Really enjoyed my time with him.
