Blazing a New Trail in Ukraine
Zach and I are feeling pretty pleased. We finally got out an did some frolfing in Ukraine. Frolf, is Frisbee Golf. Some call it Disc Golf. My friend Richard calls it Frolf, and well, we just went along with Richards title. I like Disc Golf better...rolls off the tongue better. But, oh well.
As you know, and we are very glad for your prayers, things have been very dicy here in Kiev the last few days. So this outing was needed. My anxiety over our situation boiled over last night...I'm far from perfect, as all of you know. So today, sunshine and 70's and Frolf! We have photos and some video.
Zach, are you getting any of this? Anyone read cyrillic?
This is a park near the Novoselki bus stop where we get off the bus each day. This is not a frolf course, so we improvised. We chose targets in advance and declared those targets to be the goal. Disc golf in the USA has a basket that is usually about 4 feet off the ground, with chains from top to bottom to catch your disc. These photos show Zach Moore making the first Frolf throw we know of in Ukraine. What a golden moment.
Now, Zach had a couple birdies, but I had an ace. Oddly enough, we were shooting video on the hole I got the ace, but Zach did not understand the video recording. He really did great work on the camera...I was quite impressed with his ability. So we took a 2nd shot of what I did with a 2nd disc...not my best, which landed short of the goal.
On this course, with no baskets, the goals were boulders, tires, one was a bag of garbage in the forest. On the hole where I aced it, we called a dirt pile to be our goal. So my first ace is on an unofficial course. Zach and I are very competitive, so he doens't want to count the ace. He is going to check with Richard back home.
The woods in Novoselki were really pretty gross, with garbage strewn all over the place. Apparently, the woods is considered a good place to dump your trash. You can see evidence of this in the photos. We actually played the first group of holes in a wooded area, and the last group of holes around a sludge pond...pretty gross in my opinion. But it made for a good place to throw some discs.
Oh, and we saw the kids today too...forgot to mention that. Anya and Samuel had school Anya didn't want to do school, but Nellie and I team up well, and told Anya she has to do it....eventually, she did. Here are some non frolf photos from today.
Finally, this is Zach getting on my last nerve.

ReplyDeleteI am praying that you receive your court date very quickly. I have enjoyed looking at your blog each day. It is fun to see all the pictures and to learn from your experiences.
