Trip to Kiev

Here we are at the start, at the Lindberg Terminal in the Twin Cities.  Our trip started at 9:36 am.

We got the big plane in Chicago, flying on Lufthansa.  Great airline...very comfortable plane...still found it tough to sleep.  The plane had really good entertainment.

We got off an 8 hour flight for this???  Dusseldorf International airport was dull!!!  I mean Eau Claire, Wisconsin airport dull.  There was nearly nothing.  We had to get our passports stamped just to enter the "Eurozone" and get some eggs for breakfast.

This is Nellie at the Dusseldorf airport.  In front of her is 1/3 of a $40.00 breakfast.  The fresh squeezed OJ that Zach, Nell and I all had was $5.00 a pop.   I'd say that cafe is at least just getting by financially.  We left the cafe in search of some normal sundry items...no such luck.  Nope, so we headed back to the departure gate. We finally got the boarding call, but instead of going to a plane that appeared connected to the walkway, we entered a bus shuttle, that took us to our plane out on the tarmac.  First time for everything.

For the last leg of the trip, we took this little jet, a boeing 737.  I don't have photos of the arrival in Kiev, but I will say, remind your coordinators more than once when your flight arrives.  That got lost in translation with us.  We were stuck in the airport for 90 minutes waiting, waiting, waiting, and then a wonderful person over in terminal B let me use their cell phone to call Igor.  He was told we were taking KLM.  Great.  Well, we were thrilled when his driver arrived.  And we are thrilled to be here.  And tired.  Zach and I are up watching the NCAA final.  I'm going back to bed.

  1. Great post and great pics, guys! Welcome to Kyiv! We're glad you made it! We can assure you it gets better from here. We are nearly jet lag free now after 5 days and living comfortably on Euro time. We look forward to meeting you and/or chatting once you get settled. We are a little ways away from you as we needed a larger apartment. Call or e-mail when you're up to it.
