Looking for SDA Permission this Week
Our adventures in Kiev will include a lot of photos of our new cherubs as soon as we have the blessing of the SDA. We have our 2nd appointment tomorrow. Judging from the Boehrs and the Ritzman experiences, we should have our official permission by Wednesday. Good thing, because I work Wednesday and Thursday this coming week.
Spring has sprung in Kiev, though reluctantly. Proof positive, is Nellie and I have our allergies in full swing. But that is nothing, truly, compared to the manifold blessings we continue to experience. For one, new friendships with the Ritzmans and the Boehrs. Matthias really enjoys spending time with Lucas Ritzman. And they both like pounding on my 15 year old Zach, who really enjoys that kind of rough housing. Another blessing is that Kiev is truly starting to feel like home. We feel confident getting around, and we keep running into English speaking fellow visitors. I was even at a farmers market today, and used my limited Russian to ask someone selling apples how good their English is. Everywhere we go, we are instantly spotted as foreigners, but the Ukrainians are so nice. This country has so much potential, I'm seriously considering looking into a mutual fund that centers on Ukraine.
Igor is one of our coordinators, and he helped me immensely again this weekend. On Friday, I found a filling of mine had fallen out, and I needed dental care. One call to Igor, and he sets up a Saturday appointment with a good friend of his. The dentist friend has a practice, and I get assigned a young female dentist. I had a novacaine shot and the filling done...about one hour of service. It was top notch...I seriously could not tell any difference from the same treatment in the US. And instead of costing $200.00 in US, it cost 150.00 UAH, which is less than 20 bucks. I tipped the dentist because I was so stunned at the expertise at such a low price. What is wrong with our healthcare in the US?
Tonight, we stopped by Dave and Jeanne's because our cell phone was dead. Like a whiz, Dave figures out how to get it going. So we stayed and visited with them for an hour. We enjoy spending time with them. While we are so happy for them about their coming court date, we will miss them when they leave for the States. It really is nice being in the same building with them, enjoying fellowship....sharing our common bond as adopting parents.
