Another Great Day at the Orphanage

I had some business to attend to, and didn't make it to the orphanage until 2:30pm.  But I got a great hug from Anya, so that made it all worth the wait.  Nellie, Zach and Matthias were at the orphanage from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm.  About an hour after I got there, the Boehrs stopped by, and we had a great opportunity to hang around with Jill, Bruce and their kids.  In fact, here are some photos.


The art of getting a self photo was perfected by my daughter Rebekah.  I thought Jill and Bruce were masterful in these poses.  I could win an award with either of these photos.

 This is Anya just being playful with Dad.  Zach and I repeatedly did a one, two, three toss into the ball pit.
Could Anya be any cuter?  I don't think so.  I think we're talking serious daddy's girl material.  Fine by me.

Zach posing for a photo with Natasha.  Note the ever present boxers on Zach.  Natasha has two siblings, one is Vlad, and another brother. Natasha is an absolute sweetheart, and you should see Vlad handle a soccer ball....talk about a Rocket!!! Nice boy as well.  Somebody please host these amazing kids this summer.

 My favorite photo today.  This is another Natasha, a friend of Anya's.  I snuck into their huddle...Anya was showing them photos from my Ipod...and snap, snap, snap, got all three quick photos with the camera looking up at each of them.  The middle photo is our adorable girl, and the last one is Angelica. 


Angelica and Andri are brother and sister.  Angelica is a sweet, quiet kid.  The Ritzmans got to know Andri, and said he is very nice.   Somebody, please host these kids this summer! (Part II). 

I had the camera and was hanging quite a bit with Anya and Zach.  I got one photo of Samuel (Artium) today.  Pictured here, he was blowing some bubbles Momma had given him.  He laughed out loud when Zach and I started popping them.

    Hey Moores...Ritzman's got to Amsterdam...it was sad leaving Sasha, the orphanage and kids today. Great seeing your photos... "like it!" Lucas just settled in for sleep at hotel. Have a 10:20A to MSP.

    I 2nd the hosting of both sets of kids mentioned. Someone who's heart is being tugged by the Lord now in MN should call ECAS and say "I'm in." That's how we all started...it's a God thing.

    We miss you all and the Boehrs. Tell Zach that I was teaching Andre American football and he loved it. Zach should keep teaching him and the other boys since you all have a real football vs. the rugby ball I had. Miss you all!!!

We have been sending Samuel and Anya to a therapist for about 6 months now.  Dr. Kelly does play therapy, creating a safe zone for the kids to express their inner frustrations.  Nellie, Zach, myself and Matthias are ready for some play therapy.  I remember something my friend Jeff told me about Misha, a boy he adopted from Russia.  He said 5 years after the adoption, the boy still lies, and blatantly.    The funny thing is that there are days when you really believe you are making progress.  Then reality hits, and you see what was thought of as progress, was merely a calculation, a behavior displayed to yield a desired result.  This stands in stark contrast to any child we have raised previoulsy.  Our biological children at home, are really sick of these manipulative behaviors.  We are sick of them.  Talk about draining. But God has been our miracle worker over and over.  He is the one making progress, and He is not taking ...

I forgot a Key Post

Just reading through this nice new format on the blog, I realized I left out an important day or two I wanted to pass along.  After the 10 day wait for the court approval of the adoption, you have an opportunity to get the children.  There was some concern about my taking Samuel home to downtown Kiev.  I took this as a slight, which was kind of arrogant.  They were thinking of my best interests.  Having Samuel downtown in Kiev in the apartment was so difficult. He would not watch TV, nor play with toys, nor eat most of what we tried to feed him, and for entertainment, he would stare at the washing machine.  The days dragged on, until I called Igor and asked if Samuel could return to the orphanage for a few days.  Igor, always nice, said "no problem". But this is besides the point.  The day before our embassy appointment, we were running between a police station in Kiev and another government office, and a notary service at breakneck speed....

Day with the Kids in Kiev

Whew, what a ride!!  It was a great day, and a day of prayer.  God has been abundantly present and constantly giving parenting advice.  God really cares for kids, and the the advice is constantly, patience, patience, patience.  The kids were so excited about everything today...naptime, supper time, going to the park, going to bed.  These are good kids, but as some have told us, especially in Samuel's case, they have no idea about things like family rules. I've also worked my last day in Kiev until we return, I think.  Mr. Mom is a demanding job, and I'm glad to have it.  The day started early with a trip on the red line with the Landry's to meet up with Victor.  About 12:15 pm, our coordinator showed up with the two little gems in downtown Kiev.  We hung out at the Notary, and I thought it was for the Landry's.  Then Victor had me sign something for the Passport, and the day was done.  The Landry's and us took the train to Maida...
